This coming weekend, October 1st and 2nd, the final two rounds of an exciting season will take place in Bogota, Colombia. The title of overall World Cup champion will be at stake in both the men’s and women’s competitions during this weekend’s events. Find out below who is currently leading the pack and what it will take to pass them up for the win.
This coming weekend, the final two rounds of the BMX racing World Cup will be held at the Parque El Salitre in Bogota, Colombia. After six rounds of competition, it is abundantly clear who the favorites are; however, there is still room for unexpected outcomes with 1,000 points on the line between Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2.
Laura Smulders, who won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics for the Netherlands, is currently in a commanding position at the top of the women’s ranking. It would take an extraordinary feat to prevent Smulders from winning a fifth World Cup series title, which could be decided as early as this coming Saturday. And despite the fact that the men’s competition is more close, with France’s Sylvain Andre holding a lead of 465 points, it appears that he will still win the championship.
Where did we come from? Check out the World Cup Overall Title
After a run of four consecutive years between 2016 and 2019 in which she won every World Cup overall title that was up for grabs, Smulders is currently enjoying one of the best seasons of her career.
She won both of the first two rounds of the competition that took place in Glasgow in May, giving her the maximum possible score of one thousand points. Her dominating performance helped her get off to a strong start in the competition. Zoe Claessens of Switzerland finished in second place in round 1, and Beth Shriever of Great Britain, the reigning Olympic champion, finished in second place in round 2. It was the first step in what would become a three-way race to the finish line, with everything still up for grabs over the course of this coming weekend.

Claessens took her first victory of the season in Round 3, leaving Smulders in second position after the race that took place in Papendal, Netherlands in May. Shriever was only able to finish 10th in the competition. And Claessens once again demonstrated that she is the best competitor in the field the next day by recording back-to-back victories, with Smulders finishing in second place and Shriever coming in third.
Smulders really strengthened her hold on the title during the most recent weekend’s competition in Colombia. She finished in second place behind Shriever in round five, while Claessens finished in thirteenth place, and then she stormed to victory in round six, with Claessens finishing in fourth place and Shriever in eighth place.
In the men’s competition, Diego Alejandro Arboleda Ospina came out on top in the first round, followed by Andre in second place and Olympic silver medalist Kye Whyte in third place. Jeremy Rencurel came out on top in Round 2, but Andre continued to demonstrate his remarkable consistency by finishing in second place once more. France took the top two spots in this round.
Andre’s first victory of the season did not come until the third round, when he prevailed in Papendal against the challenge of Rencurel. This was the first time that Andre had won a race this season. However, finishing in 15th place in round 4 allowed other riders the opportunity to challenge the French rider.
Olympic champion Niek Kimmann earned his first win of the year in round 5 of competition, which took place the week before last. Coming in second place was American Cameron Wood, and Andre finished in third place. And after an outstanding victory in the sixth round, Wood was given a chance to win the overall title, despite Andre’s placing fourth in the competition.
