At the beginning of the speed skating World Cup on Friday, Miho Takagi of Japan won the bronze medal in the women’s 500-meter event.
Takagi, who finished in second place in the 500-meter event at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing
Won her first World Cup medal in the distance after clocking in at 38.17 seconds in Stavanger, Norway.
Kim Min Sun of South Korea ran the race in a winning time of 37.55 seconds, and Jutta Leerdam of the Netherlands finished in second place with a time of 38.06.
“Compared to the race when I was able to give my very best, I haven’t reached (my standard) in any aspect,” Takagi said, after making only a 0.01 second improvement on her time from the national single distance championships held a month ago.
The multi-distance skater stated that she was eager to further improve over the distance, which she is fully contesting this season to strengthen her ability to sprint. Despite the fact that she dropped 0.13 seconds in the first 100 from that race, she stated that she was eager to further improve over the distance.
“I have not yet been able to achieve the pace (required) for the 500. “I feel as though my cornering is another area in which I have room for improvement,” she remarked.
