This coming weekend in Bogotá, Colombia, the 2022 UCI BMX Racing World Cup season will reach its conclusion, and Mariana Pajón is hoping to reclaim her position at the forefront of the competition.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist will compete in front of her home crowd on both Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2, in the month of October. You won’t have to pay anything to see her compete live on Olympics.com.
Watch the gold medalist from London 2012 and Rio 2016 compete live on the Olympic Channel on Olympics.com and the Olympics YouTube page. The final two rounds of the eight-stop series will take place on Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2, respectively.
Despite the fact that the reigning World Cup champion cannot mathematically win the title this year, she will still be competing at the Parque El Salitre BMX track in order to salvage some of her pride in front of her home fans and look for a first podium finish of the year.
This weekend, in addition to UCI BMX Racing Olympic ranking qualification points, there will also be points up for grabs for the riders’ respective National Olympic Committees.
Mariana Pajón is still chasing her first World Cup podium in 2022
Pajón, who has won two Olympic gold medals, has endured what is considered to be a below-par year on the World Cup circuit.
She did not advance to the final of either of her first two competitions in Glasgow, and after sustaining an injury during practice, she decided against competing in Rounds 3 and 4 in Papendal.
However, she bounced back to finish sixth and fifth the previous weekend on her home turf in Bogotá, the same track that she will compete on this week.
The rest of her season has been a bit of a roller coaster, with her finishing fifth at the World Championships but taking first place at the Pan-American Championships and the Bolivarian Games respectively.
That indicates that she hasn’t yet finished on the podium in a worldwide UCI race this year, something that she will be hoping to remedy by the end of this weekend.
