At the ISU Speed Skating World Cup Finals, Irene Schouten was only one of the numerous skaters from the Netherlands who performed exceptionally well on their home turf. Irene Schouten came in first place, ahead of her fellow Dutchwoman Marijke Groenewoud. Meanwhile, Kjeld Nuis and Thomas Krol took first and second place, respectively, in the 1500-meter men’s division A race.
Irene Schouten led the way for the Netherlands in the Women’s Mass Start competition at the ISU Speed Skating World Cup Finals, which were held in Heerenveen. It was another fantastic day for the Netherlands.
She finished in 8 minutes and 53 seconds, giving her 180 points and putting her just ahead of Marijke Groenewoud, another Dutch athlete, whose time was 8 minutes and 53 seconds.
Kjeld Nuis and Thomas Krol of the Netherlands finished first and second, respectively, in the 1500-meter race for men in Division A of the competition. This was another example of the Dutch dominating the podium.
In comparison, Krol’s time of 1:43.797 earned him 108 points, while Nuis’s time of 1:43.486 earned him 120 points.
Connor Howe, who hails from Canada, came in third place overall with a time of 1:44.393.
Irene Schouten wasn’t finished yet
And she went on to earn her second victory of the day, giving the Dutch even more cause for celebration.
Irene Schouten ran the three thousand meter race for women in Division A in a time of 3:56.829, which earned her a total of 120 points.
After finishing in a time of 3:57.152, Ragne Wiklund of Norway came in second, and Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic came in third with a time of 3:57.165.
Jorrit Bergsma came in third place, but Bart Swings of Belgium took first place in the men’s mass start competition.

Swings completed the race in a time of 7:43.910, Andrea Giovannini finished in second place with a time of 7:44.210, and Bergsma came in third with a time of 7:44.840.
Erin Jackson of the United States of America won the 2nd 500m Women Division A race, clocking a time of 37.324 seconds in the process and taking first place.
Brittany Bowe, who was also from the United States, came in second, and Japan’s Min Sun Kim, who ran a time of 37.587, took third place.
Tatsuya Shinhama of Japan won the 2nd 500-meter race for men in Division A with a time of 34.487 seconds, and Piotr Michalski of Poland came in second place.
Wataru Morishige, a countryman of Shinhama’s, came in third place.
Miho Takagi’s winning time of 1:13.285 was good enough to put her ahead of Bowe in second place and Kimi Goetz in third place in the 1000-meter race for women in Division A.
