First Women’s World Cup Race
On Saturday, the first women’s race of the new season of the Alpine Skiing World Cup was called off because of poor visibility caused by rain and snowfall on the course, which made it impossible to have a safe race.
According to a statement released by FIS, the decision to cancel the giant slalom was made “because to the current weather situation and the foreseeable weather prognosis.”
The race was originally scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., but the organizers opted to push back the start time by one hour. However, they ultimately decided not to hold the competition because the weather did not improve.
The question of whether or not the race would be rescheduled was not immediately answered.
The previous year, Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States was victorious in the traditional season opener held on the Rettenbach glacier. Shiffrin went on to win the overall title for the fourth time.
On Sunday, there will be a men’s giant slalom competition held on the same course.
